Announcing the Los Gatos Poet Laureate 2015 Poetry Contest Winners

The winners of the 2015 Los Gatos Poet Laureate Poetry Contest have been announced:

Teen Division

Second Place, Lauren Finkle, “The Millenials”
Third Place, Yash Mahajani, “I Remember”
Honorable Mention, Michelle Shen, “Faraway”

Adult Division
First Place, Renée M. Schell, “Accidental Bird-Watcher”
Second Place, Ariel Smart, “Henry Rink”
Third Place, Ann Muto, “Civil Control Station: Registration”
Honorable Mentions, Amy Meier, “American Dream,” Jade Bradbury, “Two If By Sea,” Janet Trenchard, “Moon of Shortest Nights,” Pratibha Kelapure, “Monet on Her Mind”

The contest was open to residents of Los Gatos (Santa Clara County or Santa Cruz County), and residents of Santa Clara County. Categories included adult (18 and over) and Teen (13-17). The contest deadline was March 15, 2015, with winners announced on March 31, 2015.

The winning poems were on display at the Los Gatos Library and at the following participating businesses in Los Gatos during National Poetry Month, April 2015:

Los Gatos Birdwatcher
Salon Soleil
Village House of Books
Trent Pottery
Boulevard Coffee

The contest is a fundraiser for the second Poet Laureate Scholarship for Creative Writing, awarded annually to a student at Los Gatos High School. The first scholarship winner was Ray Pendleton, currently a student at New York University.
